How does the "bag check" work?
Just like a coat check, our "bag check" system allows you to bring personal items to the school, without having to worry about hanging onto them in the gym! It's probably easier to leave most things at home, but we realize that you may want to have a bag or sweatshirt with you. We're just giving you a safe place to store these items, since they'd only get in the way of your dance moves :-)
When you arrive at the school, parent volunteers will check you in and take your ticket money ($10). They'll then help you put all of your extraneous personal belongings into a labeled bag. You'll get a ticket with your bag number (and we'll write them all down as well in case you forget!). All bags will be safely stored and monitored by our parent volunteers. Throughout the evening, you'll be able to access any of the belongings in your bag!
Do I have to put my phone in the bag check?
We strongly encourage this, but it's up to you and your parents! In the past, high school students have asked for a safe place to store their phones, so that they did not need to worry about holding onto them all night. They were concerned about losing/breaking them and found social media / messaging during the dance to be distracting. We've found that students would rather focus on dancing and spending time with their friends!
If you would like to keep your phone in your pocket throughout the dance, please remember that all Student Handbook policies still apply.
This is my first dance...what should I expect?
A lot of fun! When you enter the High School lobby, parent volunteers will check your name off, collect your ticket money, enter you into our raffle, and help you safely store any personal belongings. You'll then make your way up the main staircase, to the second floor lobby (all other areas of the school will be completely blocked off). In this area, we'll have water stations and snacks for sale. We'll also have some tables set up in case you'd like to take a break from the music to chat with friends during the night. The dance itself will take place in the gym, where our DJ will be set up.
Can my parents do anything to help?
We'd still love candy donations! Any leftover Halloween candy would be perfect for our snack sale. Donations can be dropped off to Ms. Wentworth's office any day this week.
